It was my first experience, all those years ago (Sept '89). We stayed at The Park Casino which is now Main Street Station. If you are going to stay Downtown, I strongly recommend the Golden Nugget ( a true 4* hotel) or maybe the newer riooms at The Plaza. The rest are a little below those two, I think. At the time of the year you're talking about, you should get great rates unless there's a big convention in town.

With explosives I assume. But since it was post 9/11/2001 we know a simple fire would have done the job just as well. :?

Sadly, they didn't have a spare 737 fully laden with passengers and fuel available. I know this is Vegas so they certainly looked into the possibility.

They also had plans to call the new casino "Post WTC" but didn't think that quite catchy enough.

I stayed in Vegas for a couple of nights before a trekking trip I did in 2000, although I stayed at a Best Western a bit away from the main strip. I did have a good day and night wandering around Vegas, by myself and it was fine. The hotels are fantastic and I went to an art gallery and saw the water fountains (fantastic) at the Bellagio, wandered through the Ventian as a couple of friends had got married there, and did the normal tourist things at the others. I saw 'Mystere' by Cirque du Soleil at the Treasure Island hotel, and had a fantastic buffet at the Luxor.

I totally enjoyed it, although I'm not sure I'd want to spend long periods of time there as I'm not interested in the casinos/slot machines. And the night flight in, over the mountains and then seeing all the lights just appear is one of the best sights I've ever seen :D

After much talk and half-planning, today we have finally booked flights for a group of us to go out there for our 30th, next April. We're there for 5 nights, and will be trying to squeeze as much ins as possible. So:

1) Bump

2) Should this be moved to the travel section now?

3) Does anyone have any suggestions that they'd recommend for a group of 4-6 30 year-old lads that hasn't already been mentioned? I'm looking at you, Pete!

EDIT - Just reading through your post on thedibb, Pete. Very informative so far, cheers!

For those that haven't been, or have been but didn't gamble, if you spend money gambling in just about any hotel, your drinks will be provided for free. And I don't mean piss weak beer - I mean liquor. I sat at the bar in our hotel during CES back in January waiting for my colleagues one evening. The bartender wanted something like $8 for a G&T so I told him I'd put $10 in the poker machine right in front of me. I won $25.

It pays to gamble!

Yeh - I think the provisional rule was that when something got dropped down off the third page in this section it would be moved over.

I'm not sure where this one was but if anything's been missed just let me or someone else know. Ta.

Ah, didn't know about that. Looking at the post before my bump, it would have been close to the bottom of the 3rd page.

Been liking some of the information I've been finding on this site. Sign up for their weekly newsletter email.
My nose has been in my travel books and online. Getting increasingly excited, yet still haven't pulled the trigger on the exact when/where other than to acknowledge it's going to be one of the first weeks in November.
Alas, Flava Flav's House of Flav has already tanked, so we won't be going there.
