The Human League, if you don't mind.
I'm very keen indeed on Yorkshire - it has many things to recommend it including Betty's, York, Whitby, the pretty bits round West Yorkshire where my scary rozzer friends live, Ilkley, Harrogate, the Dales and the Settle- Carlisle railway, Scarborough and the sweary parrots etc
However, nothing in England can beat the beauty of the Forest and Trough of Bowland, the area round between Chipping and Clitheroe, ie LANCASHIRE.

I love this thread dearly. Much better than any travel guide...
On the whole, I'd rather be in Wallenpaupack.

Even your Ripper wasn't as good as London's!
I've been talking about writing a book - 25 years of TEFL - for a few years now. I've got it in me.

Re: Yorkshire v The Rest of the World
While we're on the subect of Yorkshire, could I ask you all to please remember my son Jim in your prayers tonight?
He's 25, well brought up, intelligent and from a nice middle-class East Midlands family, but unfortunately has lived in Yorkshire for almost 6 years (4 in Leeds and the rest in Sheffield).
Sadly, this means he's developed a noticeable Yorkshire accent, despite his protestations to the contrary. It's heartbreaking and I'm glad his mum (Leicestershire via Devon) isn't around to witness this.
So please, tonight, could you ask the lord to cure my son of this terrible affliction? We have great hopes that his girlfriend (posh Brummie) will be of some help in this.
Thank you and god bless.
Phil.
PS Please would you also remember his twin sister, who I think is on the point of going a bit.... Coventry. ("yow orlroight dad"). Thank you.

Great things from Yorkshire:
David Hockney's angry, incoherent letters to The Guardian about smoking.
Sunday evening TV shows like Heartbeat and Last Of The Summer Wine that remind us that Sundays are supposed to be dull.
Geoffrey Boycott droning on about line and length on Test Match Special
Great things from Rest of the World
The music of Nightwish
The films of Aki Kaurismäki
Angry Birds
Yes, I know there's more to the rest of the world than Finland, but frankly, who cares?

Yorkshire folk have a reputation of being a bit blunt. Do you think it is warranted? And if so why do you think the Yorkshire personality is different to say folk from Lancashire?
If one was to go on a walking holiday of Yorkshire where would you recommend?
If you were to name one place as being the heart or embodiment of Yorkshire, where would it be and why?
Anyone?
