Good idea. it's about time it was useful for something.
Sorry, summat.
I mean, c'mon, the place can't even make proper fishcakes...

My best friend's mum, when I was a kid, was from Yorkshire. She made really good spaghetti.

My Grandpa was a Yorkshireman. I have the Yorkshire gene ... (not to be confused with Yorkshire Gene)

Was Capt. Jean Luc Picard the first Yorkshireman to captain a starship?

Re: Yorkshire v The Rest of the World
I have serious Yorkshire roots too, on my mother's side. But I was born in Nottinghamshire, and I feel overwhelmed by my larger neighbour, despite this. So I feel ambivalent in a major way.
I always support Notts in any confrontation on the cricket pitch against Yorkshire. And of course, in football, I know that Forest have two European titles that put us ahead of any Yorkshire (or London) team. Musically, we struggle, managing a handful of cult acts like Tindersticks or B-Movie; by comparison, Sheffield alone produces a sickening number of great bands (Human League, Cabaret Voltaire, Pulp, Arctic Monkeys...).
But I like where I'm from, despite everything; no-one would describe the place as glamorous, but dammit, I love the place. And us East Midlander yokels always will have those European Cup trophies that elude you Yorkshire folk...

Re: Yorkshire v The Rest of the World
I always felt that Yorkshire was somewhat spoiled by, well, Yorkshiremen banging on about how northern they were. As a Northumbrian it just always seemed a bit odd. The phrase 'trying too hard' always came to mind. That's not always a bad thing, mind you: I've had two girlfriends from Yorkshire -- both nurses as it happens -- and they tried very hard indeed and heard no complaints from me. I used to win money every Friday betting on one of them, a skinny Wakefield lass, in 'down a pint' races against fat rugger buggers from the home counties. Happy days. Yorkshire's not so bad but it is responsible for Leeds, unfortunately.

It's very realistic. Yorkshire horses can draw better than me! That's how great Yorkshire is.
