I miss the cracknel. Nobody else liked them, so I usually got them all.

I thought the cracknel was the same shape as the yellow one that now is "toffee finger".

No, they were shorter and wider, and wrapped in blue.

it's been a long time since I've been offered any quality street but I remember that crisp yellow centre.
The tins made them such a distinctive brand in the 70s,the victorian/edwardian captain and lady design...now it's just some photos of the sweets on the sides I believe.

What manner of madness is this? Not a single vote for the orange or strawberry creams? They should be streets ahead by now.
This is where democracy gets you. Time for a soft centre dictatorship to be established. Who's with me?
(In other news, this whole thread has resulted in me walking through to the other room for yet another handful of QS. I name thee, Black Cat Bone, the destroyer of my waistline...)

Re: The Big Quality Street Vote
It's a madder world than I thought if strawberry creams are getting more votes than the coconut one. I also like the mint blocks, a welcome new addition. I nearly lost two teeth to a mouthful of toffee pennies today though, one has to be careful.
You come at the Queen, you best not miss.

Fruit and chocolate should NEVER go together.
NEVER.

A couple of observations:
1 - I doubt that a Strawberry Cream has ever been near anything that resembled a Strawberry.
2 - What about Frank Muir's finest moment?:

It's that combination of flavours - tart/citrus, and creaminess/cocoa-iness. Not right at all.
I mean, chocolate limes? Who ever thought of such a thing? Eeurghhh!!!!

Dried fruit like that is OK.

With the utmost respect that is complete bollocks.
There does not exist a combination in confectionary better than chocolate and orange. You should give it a go.

Dark chocolate with a hint of orange is OK.
Milk chocolate filled with a citrusy cream is vile. Chocolate-covered strawberries are an abomination.
