Early in life I did think it was "apiece" or possibly "ah-PICE" - then at some point in my teens I heard someone pronounce it "APP-ih-chee" and I just assumed that was correct, and though I've heard a few other pronunciations over the years I stuck with that one.
The original Italian way is "ah-PEE-chay", but Carmine and Vinnie (or their family) apparently made a conscious decision when they were growing up to go with "apiece".

I didn’t know Loki’s old signature pic was from ‘The Apartment’ until I saw it for the first time yesterday and that made me pretty glum.

The original Italian way is "ah-PEE-chay".
That was my reasoning (and I knew the correct Italian way).

In my head I've always pronounced it APP iss. I have no idea why, and I don't think I've ever heard it pronounced outside of my head.
Although, come to think of it, having been brought up a good Catholic boy, maybe my pronunciation model was 'chalice'.

I have heard Carmen Appice interviewed (and introduced as Ap-piece) as he was one of the first drummers to recognise the brilliance of John Bonham, very early on when Zep supported Vanilla Fudge in the US. So I'm guessing that's where I got my pronunciation from, in retrospect.

On a completely different track...
Between 1800 and 1960, 9% of European emigration was to Siberia. That's as much as Canada, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa put together.
While I suspect this may not have been entirely voluntary I haven't found out for sure why that happened yet.
Looking into it...
