The film High Rise starring Tom Hiddleston is dreadful. Avoid.

Snap. Exactly. We then sat through The Great Gatsby, which the family liked but I thought was terrible.

The origin of the word "claptrap."

[The foregoing] is, of course, claptrap, in the original sense of the word. As Jonathan Rose describes in The Literary Churchill, in old melodramatic plays the hero, back to the wall, would deliver “a brief but fervent oration, proclaiming what he is fighting for, and hurling defiance in the face of the villain. This performance naturally obliges the audience to applaud furiously: they are fairly trapped into clapping.” The audience obviously got hip to this trick pretty fast, and claptrap became just another word for bullshit.

Whilst often being a bit of a knob, there is something about Liam Gallagher I find myself enjoying more and more.

It starts off a bit slow but after about two minutes it gets a bit more interesting and amusing.

He passed away last night. Tough bugger - took six months to finally succumb, twice what he was originally given.

This January can do one. Rapidly.

The song Listen to the Rhythm of the Falling Rain, by The Cascades, was written by Dan Fogelberg.

Now there's a guy I haven't thought about in decades.

You've been lied to. It was written by John Gummoe of The Cascades.

Not only that, but its title isn't even "Listen to the Rhythm of the Falling Rain."

Thanks, Charlie!

The letters 'LA' above the idle adjuster screw on Stihl chainsaws is an abbreviation of the German: Leerlaufanschlag, which translates to idle stop.

That the great film director Billy Wilder was actually born in Austria and escaped to the USA with the rise of the Nazis in 1933.

Not ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

-------------------

Earth is the only planet in the solar system that receives a total eclipse of the sun. This is due to a quirk unique to us - our moon is 400 times smaller than the sun in diameter, but is also exactly 400 times closer to the earth than the sun.... hence when they line up.... a total eclipse!
