Not for a while
But I was an early adopter in the 80s due to Edinburgh's proximity to Newcastle and my proximity to a Geordie PhD student who used to bring it in when it wasn't much more than a load of stapled together sheets.
But not as good as my all time favourite character Paul Whicker Tall Vicar.
Which to my mind even beats this Rude Kid's "Piss up a rope, fuck stick"

From the 200th issue's letter page:
Every time I see the numbers 9:11 on my bedside clock radio, I get a shiver down my spine. Not because it brings back memories of the New York terrorist atrocity, but because I'm over ten minutes late for work.

One of my favorite one-off cartoons was a picture of a camera with the caption "the camera never lies" and a speech bubble coming out of the camera which said "John Wayne was Yugoslavian."
If I could draw, I would have submitted a cartoon to Viz showing two middle aged couples hiking in the Lake District. One of the women is talking non-stop bollocks and her husband turns to his male companion and says "You'll have to excuse my wife - she's rambling."

When I visited London a few years ago, I bought a stack of old ones for cheap in a district of bookshops. They were absolutely hilarious - like Whizzer & Chips gone bad.
Recently I got hold of a new issue and I thought it stunk.
Still, good for them.

Perhaps they were new creators, I can't imagine they are all still there from the '80s?

I went to college in Newcastle from '83 to '87. I think the first edition I bought was probably around number 7 or 8, I can't remember exactly. I remember one of the first ones I bought had a "free balloon" ... which was stapled to the front page!!
I still read it now. The Letters, Top Tips and Rogers Profanisaurus still have me laughing out loud.

Excellent, hang on to those rare early issues, JFP! I was thinking of you when I started this thread. I've never been to Newcastle, but have drunk the brown ale and I know my Animals.

I bought it when I was a student and for a few years beyond but don't think I've ever read a copy since 1993. Reading vulgar versions of traditional cartoon strips is funny to begin with - especially when you're a student - but wears thin eventually. Reading stuff from the letters page that people post here still makes me laugh though.
The poll needs a "used to" option.

I started reading it almost from the start. Flatmate of mine used to visit his girlfriend in Newcastle regularly, and he'd bring it back with him. I remember the Fat Slags and Finbar Saunders, and someone who used to carry his bollocks around in a wheelbarrow.

I recently bought a fridge freezer from Currys, and after I had paid for
it they asked me for my address to arrange delivery. I told them that I
lived between Gateshead and Hexham, and if they rang me a week next
Tuesday between 8am and 7pm, I night be able to give them a six hour slot
when I would be able to take delivery. When they rang me, I told them that
my house was out of stock and they should ring back on
Saturday. The shoe's on the other foot now, isn't it, Currys?
