For what it is worth, I think it is the wrong decision too. I would have enjoyed watching Labour combust under the pressure of minority government. trying to dig themselves out of the ever deepening pit that Gordon so kindly dug for us, whilst constantly bickering between themselves, and having to depend on that raving lunatic Salmond to get anything thru parliament. It would have been very funny to watch.

As it is , at least there is some hope that the economy will get some attention. Altho I am not optimistic to be honest.

Of course it's all down to the Liberal Democrats getting approval; firstly they need 75% from both the MPs and their executive committee. If both fail to deliver they will also need to ballot all of their members via a special conference, and if that fails then the deal is off.

Aren't they about to enter into a formal agreement not to derail the Tories by voting against them for the life of this parliament? I'm not quite sure how binding such an agreement would be, mind.

It's not a kid's football game where you can take your ball home when you lose.
Going into coalition with Cameron was the only mature, professional decision they could make. The will of the electorate had to be acknowledged. The Tories got many more seats than anyone else (if not a majority of course).
They met with Labour but found them so inflexible that it seems that some senior Labour ministers were determined to sabotage any deal anyway.

It will be an uneasy alliance for sure and like Prez I can't see it lasting for longer than a year. But if they can get a referendum out of it for AV and then an election, then it will be worth it. Meanwhile they have a duty to work with the Tories on some of our pressing economic problems. And we can only hope they manage to curb some of the Tories more hare-brained schemes.

Now we get to watch the long, drawn out death of the Tory party as the unreconstructed nutters realise that they are not going to be able to govern as they wish.

I am looking forward to this with some glee, I just they don't manage to tank the economy completely, as they would have done without the Liberals, whilst they commit suicide in public.

Education spending more than doubled under Labour, 1997-2010: £40 billion p.a. to £85 billion p.a.

Sure. They do, and always will, have more commitment to education than the Conservatives.
But faith schools, the abysmal idea of the academies, more selection, sats, greater administration and target setting for head teachers, post 16 education left to the marketplace, ill thought through "vocational" education, rising tuition fees.
You expect all this from the Tories, but we got it under Labour.
