It's inconvenient keeping a whole float of different denominations of coins and notes at hand to give the exact change to people.
It's inconvenient and very time consuming counting it all out and having to physically go to the bank and put it in.
Cash is open to mistakes & having it stolen.
Card payments to businesses should cost them no more that 1.75%. which, in many cases, makes it cheaper in time and convenience than cash.

I take your point, and I am not against card payments per se, although I don't favor them myself. My greatest worry is, what if you lose your card? I know of people who have a back-up card, just in case. Talk about inconvenience...

The point about 'the man' knowing what you spend your money on and where you shop is a valid one but store points (Nectar) cards do that job even better. As long as you realise you're giving a bit of information away every time you shop and are prepared for the direct advertising I don't think we need to be too worried....... just yet!

I'd rather lose £100 in the street than lose my card in a cashless society. Wouldn't you? My point is, you lose your card in such a scenario, you will have nothing. Unless you have back-ups. And back-ups for the back-ups... Just one of many serious drawbacks. Then there is the potential surveillance and social control.

You can use your phone - the Wallet app on iPhone if necessary and banks can usually get you a new card pretty quickly.
