A question for our US friends.

Postby Walk In My Shadow » 28 Sep 2023, 20:12

While traling youtube for music I came across thses clips about Sovereign Citizens (in court or stopped by police).

What's this this all about? Can someone explain it a little?

Thanks!

It's a set of elaborate legal theories that came out of the prisons and based on the Uniform Commercial Code more or less positing that, since Reconstruction (I think), our entire system is illegitimate and illegal. Therefore, government regulations and law enforcement are operating without authority and their actions are null and void when they try to prosecute or restrain someone. They tend to be litigious. When I worked for high court judges, we would see a lot of this stuff from prisons. Prisoners denying the State's authority to arrest and confine them while simultaneously invoking the court system to set them free.

It's much more elaborate than that. As legal brainstorms from prisons usually are.

MAGA types have a natural affinity for these kinds of theories.

It sure is.

Especially when one of them states: I'm not driving a car, I'm travelling
