I'll never forget the excitement I felt when I heard the wah wah guitar on the "Theme from Shaft" for the first time, nor will I ever, ever forget the first time I saw the film on television, in a hotel on 42nd Street, NYC, in 1975. An appropriate place to see the film. RIP Richard Roundtree

Karl Tremblay, lead singer and leader of les Cowboys Fringants, passed away from prostate cancer yesterday at the ripe old age of 47.

This is huge in my province as he has been one of the most, if not THE most, prominent cultural icon over here for the last couple of decades. He will be sorely missed by so many people, including me. We all knew this was coming, but it still hurts.

RIP Karl, notre étoile filante.

And there goes Shane.

Perrenial inhabitor of Dead Pools for most of his life

I suppose most people had given up putting him in as he seemed to go on far passed what you'd expect

But the Grim Reaper finally looked at his list and realised he'd missed someone about 20 years ago

Henry Kissinger must have been approaching 100. I always liked the way he pronounced his W's.

I'll never forget him getting all tooled up in various bits of sports armour for some show down with local drug dealers, Brookie was excellent in those days - Harry Cross and Ralph Hardwick were a superb double act

I agree with you here. The Vietnam War was horrific, insane, and that special place in hell is overcrowded. But you could say that about so many leaders and warmongers. Even Churchill, Arthur "Bomber" Harris, ad infinitum, ad absurdum. Geopolitics is a dirty business. Containment was necessary, I think, but not in that way.
