Somehow, we - the UK - are no longer an international laughing stock, but have become whatever is beyond that. Taken there by the natural party of government, the party of stability, of economic competence.

We need a general election

Actually we are really at the point where the King (as the ultimate custodian of the UK's "constitution") needs to ask the leader of the second biggest party to beome PM while an election is held.
I kept thinking "swim as far as you can, swim as far as you can".

I’m not saying I like it. It is the way it is, under the UK’s medieval system. If Labour really do win the next election by a landslide, the events of the last 6 years should ensure fundamental constitutional reform is at the top of their agenda.

That constitutional reform is required isn't up for debate - it very clearly is.

The one way we should NEVER change Govt is by order of the fucking Monarchy, that's for sure.

I am broadly with you. The question is how big a price do you want to pay? We are way past the time when an election should have been called. If the Tories won’t do it, there is no other mechanism. A lot of damage can be done, it appears, in 2 weeks, let alone 2 years. People are actually paying more interest. The Bank of England actually spent £20bn. Etc etc (I know you know all this).
As I say, I don’t like it. It is how it is. This is not a modern democracy.

And an unelected Monarch attempting to alter it is better in which way exactly?

Brilliant. Unparallelled. Genius.

On the whole, I'd rather be in Wallenpaupack.

Apparently Johnson is considering standing for leader “in the national interest”.

Probably - he had been a Labour MP, after all.

I'd trust the judgement of Charles more than that of a few thousand middle-aged ignorant Tory Party members.

:D unlike them, his role would be merely to insist on general election, not decide who would be in govt or be pm.

Sod selecting from within. The Tories should look abroad for a secondment.

I'd vote for Pete Buttigieg.

Has more integrity, wit and intelligence than the whole sorry lot put together.

Although Liz Truss was only in office for 44 days, because she held the post of PM, she is entitled to a annual salary of £115,000 for the rest of her life.
Unbelievable.
