Well -I was thinking, someone who was a force for good. We seem surrounded by complete bastards this year more than any other.

it's hard. i keep wanting to vote for groups of people, like all the front-liners and emergency staff dealing with covid. or the people who've devoted their time and work to coming up with vaccines.

but if i had to pick one person? i'd probably pick stacey abrams. yeah, an american perspective, but it *does* matter. she has spent years fighting against the rampant, unbelievable voter suppression in georgia. building the ground game, gettin folk registered, going far and wide with her team to get people ever disenfranchised to make their will known. even though she was cheated out of her own race, she never stopped or faltered.

and georgia~~fucquin georgia~~turned blue and voted for biden, and that's with people having to wait 10, 12 hours to vote.

now? there is a chance, admittedly a slim one, that georgia's two run-off races will go blue. if that happens (a bigggg if), the face of american politics will change. for the good. to take control of the senate and have the shot to do good things without the usual, horrific GOP obstruction. it's a slim chance, as i've said.

but the reason there IS a chance right now? that would be stacey abrams.

she is an inspiration. ya gotta love somebody who fights the odds and the monsters behind em.

second choice: keanu reeves. okay, just kiddin, but i love him anyway.

2020 would like to forget about Trump as quickly as possible. But, undeniably, he's made more news than anyone else on the planet. That's part of what's made 2020 suck so much.

I can't remember the last year I went into as optimistically. 2009, maybe? That's 12 years ago!!

The English nurse who sat sobbing in her car and pleaded to people to please leave something in the supermarkets for first line responders to buy after their long shifts.

The first real wake up-call made for what truly the consequences were of this COVID-year.

Any health care worker who, seeing the devastation Covid -19 can do to the body, still goes in day after day to help those in need.
If we need to up it a notch, those healthcare workers who knew the above, and had inadequate PPE, and who KNEW it was probably inadequate, and still went in.
I can't think of a single time in my career where I have genuinely thought that I was at risk of death from the care I was giving, and I was working in respiratory care during H1N1 which at that time was the biggest challenge we had seen.
Those people genuinely put their lives on the line.
