Life’s been good to me, so far (give or take a couple of weeks here and there).

I love that song, but that lyric has always irked. Because life blatantly is everything.
You come at the Queen, you best not miss.

Why should you when you patently obviously have accountants pay for it all?

Yes there is definitely something odd about it and it doesn't quite work. On the other hand it is clearly memorable.

Yeah!
I just can’t help imagining Elton standing, hands on hips, over the wrecked body of young Guy, his bike wheels still whirring, saying ‘well, life isn’t everything’ and I get so MAD!!

okay. maybe i'm crazy. but i always thought the overdone repetition of those lyrics meant... well... the opposite.
kinda like i'm not in love i'm not in love i'm not in love i'm not in love.
that being said, i fully accept the possibility that i am, in fact, crazy.

Huh, Ive spent the last 40 odd years thinking that he was singing "life is a temporary thing".

Not as good as thinking ‘Our Lips Are Sealed’ actually says ‘Alex the Seal’ but not far off

I have to agree with that. What a dumb line. Just shows it's not always good to pay too close attention to the lyrics.

To be fair I think the idea is that in the grief of the death of a friend or loved, you take can a modicum of comfort from their continued impact on you, or others - their legacy lives on, even though their life is over.

Put in that context it makes more sense.
