His demise in his only world championship final in 1985 where he was 13-8 up against Steve Davis and missed that blue off its spot to end up losing to him was utterly heartbreaking. It seemed he never fully recovered from that.

His addictions resulted in some very difficult times for him, but always came across as a true gent. RIP.

Having always had a fairly addictive personality myself and seen close up how one HK acquaintance's gambling destroyed his and his family's lives, am really glad that betting was one vice I managed to steer clear of.
