Many Danish and English idioms are quite similar, or even the same. Seems there is the same way of thinking in both countries, at least in that respect. But then there are those idioms in either language that are so strange, you'd have to work them out if they were new to you. For instance, here it doesn't rain cats and dogs, but sometimes it is blowing half a pelican, i.e. a storm or a gale. Completely different idioms but the same line of thinking behind them.
