I like to teach my students to say "peanuts" for a small amount of bread.

I don't believe that I've used the term "bread" but have used "dough" in the past and not often.

I don't think I've ever used it other than ironically. It was already a bit old fashioned and self-consciously 'hippie' by the time I was old enough to use it.
Bugger off.

Yes - same thing - as we all know it comes from the cockney rhyming slang 'bread and honey'
'Bread' was very much of it's time nationally (in UK) - probably mid 60s to late 70s at best
there used to be a TV series called Bread if anybody remembers that. Interestingly based in Liverpool.
I was brought up knowing cockney slang and still use a lot of it with my two teenagers to wind them up
Often it comes in two words but is very often truncated to the first word
Regarding my sons - I use:
almonds
plates
minces
boat
apples
skin
butcher's
currant
daisies
dustbin
jugs
mutton
sky
trouble
whistle

[quote="C"]Bread (money)?
Off the top of my head, and I probably do know the rest if I think on it.
almonds
plates (feet)
minces (eyes)
boat (face)
apples (stairs)
skin (sister)
butcher's (look)
currant (the sun)
daisies (boots)
dustbin (kid)
jugs
mutton (deaf)
sky
trouble (wife)
whistle (a suit)
My dad was a butcher in London.... I worked in a butchers run by a cockney... it is rife throughout the industry (along with backslang, which I am also proficient in...).

I know eleven of them.
I feel sure I also know 'dustbin' but I can't remember just now.
I also know 'jugs', but not as rhyming slang.
I'm not answering any of them in case people want have a guess first.

How about these, as used by a good mate of mine who could only be considered a cockney if you can hear the Bow Bells in Lancing...
Glorias
Gregory
Battlecruiser
and from the Sweeney...

Yes - people often get confused and say it's thruppenies (Thruppenny Bits - three pennies - the old 3d coin)
But thruppeny bits are 'tits'
Eg 'show us your thruppenies' [allegedly]

You're not wrong however in The Sweeney they refer to diamonds as 'Tom' which I reckon is Tom foolery - jewelry.
The others are correct although I would say Gregory is neck ("Get that down your Gregory" as my mate routinely quips) rather than cheque.
