He cut that verse out:

When I’m straining on the lav
For some shit I’ll never have
I need some prunes to make go
And I guess but I just don’t know

Even John Lennon? ;)

I'm more than aware of the potential of heroin to ruin lives, and I understand why people are more passionate about discussing this when it has touched them personally. I haven't had family members who have been affected, but I have had a few acquaintances die or get sick through it and I've encountered every complication and death imaginable through work. In a similar way, I have watched many more people get sick and die through alcohol use. My own mother died a grotesque alcohol related death that I wouldn't wish on anyone, and in the years before she died alcohol made her behavior so foul that generations of people suffered, the ripples of which are still spreading. I have a relative in critical care at the moment with every organ so booze saturated that they can't have the surgery they badly need - that, and that fact that they are seizing through DTs. I fear the worst. All booze instigated.

Yet, nobody is pulling the sweet sherry from my hand and pouring my Sauvignon down the sink.

This isn't a thread about whether heroin has the potential to be addictive, and everyone has acknowledged that it does.

My dad was a chronic alcoholic too. He was so desperate that I bought him his last bottle of vodka. We all have fucking stories.

And yes, John Lennon was a fucking idiot to try heroin.

All I’ll say to you is, don’t do it. But I don’t really care either way.

Frank Beard was positively GUSHING about how great heroin felt in the ZZ top documentary. His little eyes lit up!

I have to admit when my Oxy dose increased (medically) that first day was one of the best feelings I've felt. Within a few days it would fade back to the usual mild euphoria I could hardly notice. So glad I'm off that train.

Well, yeah. People don't get hooked on it because it feels awful.

My friend Graham , who was dying from a brain tumor, was given heroin during his last year. He said it made everything OK. And believe me, everything was not OK. I have always been terrified of hard drugs, as I can become dependent on drugs very quickly. I have never touched an opioid, and I doubt I ever will, recreationally at least

Was Graham prescribed diamorphine Yomp or did he get - er what’s the word - street heroin?

That’s the thing isn’t it, it’s legal. My uncle nearly got into deep trouble taking prescription diamorphine - for his kidney cysts- abroad.

My other uncle had to bin loads of morphine when my auntie Liz died too.
I've been talking about writing a book - 25 years of TEFL - for a few years now. I've got it in me.
