Which computer should I buy?

Postby Jimbo » 12 Nov 2019, 14:48

My "early 2009" Mac Mini is just so slow and unable to be updated - yet it still works fairly well for BCB, porn and 911 Truth sites. I get the spinny wheel of electronic sludge gumming up the works and so I need to reboot Firefox every half hour or so. Nonetheless, I think a new computer will be the key to my future happiness. But which? Has Windows fixed its easily infected by viruses problem. Is the new Mac minus iTunes a problem? Help please.

Following ... my HP Envy will soon need to be replaced. I'm having issues finding laptops with 17.3 inch screens .. I would even go a bit bigger if possible.

*Do you clear your DNS cache? I do it several times a day as well as cleaning my disks. Anal! I know but .. oh well.

My problem lies with Apple who've rendered my computer unable to connect with the current Apple line up, like iPhones. There are things like my bank account who've moved on an I can no longer access them on this machine. My machine is a jalopy, parts no longer available and I am forced to bite the bullet and invest about $2500 to get up to current freeway speeds. Has no one else a similar problem?

Stopped by a big electronics store today. Thought I'd check out an iPad thinking I might get off more cheaply by buying one of these instead of the whole kit and kaboodle. I'd want the one with the largest screen and that cost over $1000. So I went and looked at a Mac and while it was a beauty there wasn't much more I'd need from it than what I am getting from my old Mini which I am using right now. I punched in BCB on the $1300 floor model and there was BCB as it is right here on my old Mini. One thing is clear there is no urgent reason for me to buy a new computer but I still just might. The new Mini is about $700. I have the screen and keyboard. That may be the way to go. Anyone have a Mini?

I'm really up in the air what I'm going to buy next. I'm a PC guy because of work related issues, heavy use of complexed excel spreadsheets and a software program that doesn't work on a lot of systems. However, I do believe its time to at least switch to a laptop but every time I shop for one with a mouse attachment I'm told they don't work well. I just can't use the damn stupid laptop pointing device. Secondly I like a big screen at least that is solved these days as I can use my tv as a screen. Still up in the air might still get a PC - I use external drives so at least I don't need an expensive one.

For your uses Jimbo, I recommend one without a keyboard.
Or power.

My iPod is an important part of my life and Apple has phased them all out except for the Touch. My current iPod I'm sure will break one day soon. The SONY Walkman, however, has some models that look just my size, i.e., smaller than a deck of cards. But I'd need to go Windows I think to use a SONY. Does anyone here use a SONY Walkman MP3 player?

Don't fear the laptop mouse pad. It is just so natural to use after a very short time, I don't even think about right click or left click, I just navigate the pad automatically. I just don't know if I want to go back to a Dell or stay with HP.

I bought a reconditioned 2013 Macbook pro for £500 last year. It does the job, has beefed up RAM and works fine.

2nd hand Macs are probably your best bet, but I guess Japan doesn't really have a 2nd hand culture?

From where did you buy yours?

There is a used electronics store I check anytime I pass by called The Junk Shop. They usually have 3 or 4 running iMacs on display and the prices are a lot less than new. I bought an iPod from them and it lasted about a month before the on off switch broke. Now I am hesitant to pay, however discounted from a new price, still a substantial wad of cash.

No Laptop mouse for me. I been using one for 15 years but not for work related things, it sucks for my programs. I've had a million people tell me it doesn't matter your all on drugs.

Just get a normal cheap mouse, it'll work with practically any laptop.
