Brings to mind afternoon tea or what Americans call "high tea" and not to be confused with hightea moonweed.

Two memorable sandwhiches in the last week were sliced brisket at Valentina's in Austin with Mike and Anna and a fried oyster po-boy in Waco with my mom and sister. I hadn't had either type in years.

Never said that it was American, only that it's called both High Tea and/or Afternoon Tea in the States. AND that High Tea and/or Afternoon Tea usually includes finger sandwiches .. this is the Sandwich thread.

I haven't had a Monte Cristo sandwich in years .. don't know if I want one now but have fond memories of them at Houlihan's restaurant.

All that's very well but you can't beat a traditional, filling, hearty British ham sandwich from Boots.

For some reason, i thought that Russ & Daughters had closed. I'm very glad that they didn't. I had an aunt who lived in Forest Hills near some of the best appetizing shops in the city but would drive to the Lower East Side for Russ & Daughters. It's good to know that they still carry smoked Sable.

No they didn't close but did add a nice cafe down the road on Orchard Street. I was more a Zabar's guy but after H & H bagels closed I switched to Ross

I was mixing Russ & Daughters up with Ratners. I loved Ratner's .. my sister would gobble up all the onion rolls.
