No one can make you feel inferior without your consent.

The office postcard of clueless motivational bosses everywhere. It is, of course, nonsense.

Of course it is. And I am sure you will tell me why.

It's always good to back up a qualitative judgment, though. Also for the sake of clueless motivational bosses everywhere.

Anyway, Eleanor Roosevelt's famous quote is simplistic, too neat and orderly. Some great minds bitch about others, other great minds don't.

In a way I like my late grandfather's better, "If you haven't got anything nice to say about people, you should keep quiet." Hey, most people like a bit of gossip. But I wouldn't say it's a noble thing, or even a cool thing. It's just what we are, flawed and all.

She was the woman who put her baby in a basket and hung that outside of a New York apartment building, right?

Sorry, Jimbo, but the above contribution seems to lack the brevity and brio that makes for a truly great aphorism

By the time of her death, Roosevelt was regarded as "one of the most esteemed women in the world"; The New York Times called her "the object of almost universal respect" in an obituary.

She pressed the United States to join and support the United Nations and became its first delegate. She served as the first chair of the UN Commission on Human Rights and oversaw the drafting of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

We should all be this sort of prig.

Indeed she did sound like a prig, by that I mean her speaking voice which was what they called a "middle Atlantic" accent which was the closest to a British accent as there ever was in America. It was the accent of the American rich and you hear it often in 1930/40s American movies like the evil Mr. Potter in "It's A Beautiful Life."

No one can deny that Eleanor Roosevelt wasn't the most attractive person on the planet but she certainly had a good heart and instigated positive changes.
