I've been eating a lot of what I would call the classic Amercan breakfast, eggs, bacon, potatoes, toast w/jam on my trip but after seven days I needed a break and went back to my usual of cold cereal with fresh fruit. Two days ago we were in the capital of the Navajo Nation so I had bluecorn mush with my eggs and bacon. Rebecca had mutton ribs with her mush.

Lemme finish licking up my plate here. Ahem. Yaki soba (Japanese fried noodles), topped with katsuo bushi (shaved bonito flakes) and topped again with two Pam fried sunnyside up eggs. Coffee. Break the yolks, the yolks flow into the noodles and man, it was pretty good.

Who is Pam?

That’s 2 days on the trot she’s done your eggs for you.

Leftover cold sausage sandwich with brown sauce and tea for me.

Ooh, the environmentally sensitive members will slaughter me for this. Pam is a trade name of an aerosol no-calorie, no stick, oil-like substance spray for the fry pan. My Canadian pal brings me a few cans every time he comes to Japan.

My wife told me to use up the basil in the vegetable bin so I chopped up about five leaves and chucked them into my Pam fried scrambled eggs. Very nice.

Happy Japanese Enthronement Day! As of today Japan will have a new emperor and will enter a new era, the name of which I don't yet know. Banzai!

For breakfast I made a chopped salad with lettuce, tomato, cucumber, kiwi, avocado, canned tuna and sesame dressing. A slice of factory white toast. Coffee.

Banzai!

Happy Japanese Enthronement Day to all .... I wish that I could say that I had sushi or yakitori but it's an almond danish and coffee for me this morning.

Today in Austin we went to a local chain, Kirby Lanes which was fantastic. We both chose a Texas Bennedict which besides the poached eggs included Wagyu beef, avocado, a Texas style Hollandaise sauce on cornbread. I forget the difference in the sauce but it was the best breakfast I've had in a long time. Our waiter was appropriately "Austin weird" which is a good thing.
