Broccoli - yes or no

Postby GoogaMooga » 23 Mar 2019, 02:03

George Bush Sr. hated it, so when he became prez, he jokingly said he'd make damn sure it wasn't served to him. Whenever you hear of kids who won't eat their greens, it seems broccoli always comes to mind. I am no big fan, but it can help in fighting cancer, and has many other health benefits. One of the superfoods, then. I don't like cooking, so I will usually go for ready dinners or something from the deli counter, but my mother cooks a few meals for me, basically to make sure I eat veg. And sure enough, there will always be a couple of broccoli sprigs on those platters. I'll grudgingly pick at one and usually eat it, but I rarely eat both of them. No, I am not a big fan.

Every week my wife buys a bunch, a whole variety, shmeji, shitake, shmmoji, goochi ,,, and they go uneaten until the end of the week when she dumps the whole lot into a stew or nabe. I'll eat eat it but not happily.

Great song. Rubbish food.
Like fast-moving clouds casting shadows against a hillside, the melody-loop shuddered with a sense of the sublime, the awful unknowable majesty of the world.

Sweat Broccoli heads in a big frying pan with chopped anchovies, oil and a little chilli. Wait until it starts to crumble a bit, then mix with cooked pasta and boom, instant meal.

Big fan. This is one of my go to recipes. Beef, broccoli & oyster sauce stir-fry.

YES! delicious

broccoli's good with beef or pork in a teriyaki-style sauce, too

It's a yes from me, except broccoli and stilton soup. Nobody has any business putting cheese in soup. Nasty.

We were at one of our favourite veggie restaurants last night who have mastered the art of completely delicious broccoli in a salad - the bite couldn’t be any more perfect. Twenty seconds too long or too short would make a massive difference. That’s why it’s always grim when I cook it, no patience.
You come at the Queen, you best not miss.

I only really get excited about Purple sprouting broccoli but it's seasonal so get down to the veg counter sharpish this weekend.

Love Broccoli - just don't over cook it.
I'll eat it raw(mostly in salads) but lightly steamed/stir-fry is the best.
Also good with a cheese sauce on top!

Broccoli rabe and the purple broccoli good too!

I like broccoli, but my new favourite is Broccolini, which I guess is a crazy mixed-up kid from broccoli and rapini parents:
