Most obnoxious TV ad spokesperson
In my opinion, there are some really obnoxious TV ad spokespeople going around these days, some real, some fictitious. Here are three I particularly dislike. What about you?
Arby's Chief of Sandwiches (creepy)
My Pillow guy
Flex Seal guy

Yeah, it's hard to believe they're still using Flo.
I think it's interesting how ad agencies and companies choose a spokesperson. An ad has to run so many times that they have to pick a person who's amusing, appealing and who will wear well.
When I was studying advertising in college, you were taught to stay away from humor. It was thought that people would remember the humor and not the product. David Ogilvy, who wrote the bible on advertising, and the head of global agency, Ogilvy and Mather, preached that.

With apologies to Sloop, have any brits seen that dismal Pukka Pies ad?
I was convinced that it was the result of the ad challenge on The Apprentice but apparently it’s for real.

I've been talking about writing a book - 25 years of TEFL - for a few years now. I've got it in me.

I watched a couple of their ads on YouTube. They're not as bad as this. I couldn't find a short TV version.

The Orange adverts from 10 or so years ago were really annoying but also really effective - I just can't watch Brennan Brown now though and in any way take him seriously (he pops up in The Sinner season 2 for example).

Do "Brand Ambassadors" come any more annoyingly intrusive than the UK's mighty "Barry Scott"?
"Barry" was so in your face, the agency had to get an actor to play him and then resurrect the character after sales went down the shitter when the brand changed direction and dropped him.
Altogether now, BANG! and the dirt has gone!

Is that the one with the couldn't-give-a-fuck mum? It looks like Citizen Kane compared to the Gimme Dat Ding one they used to run.

That's a long way to go for a punchline.

Not a TV spokesperson as such, but I hate the new Jaguar TV commercial, mainly on a small detail. Husband buys wife Jaguar for Xmas, but drives it around before he gives it to her. They show the odometer for a second: 981 miles. Where the fuck did the guy drive?
I would have believed 281, but 981 miles. Bad miss in my opinion. Too over the top.

There was a whole series of these - they were everywhere for a while. Obviously he's supposed to be annoying so I guess he is doing a good job, but it's impossible to separate him from these now.

Huh. I guess they have different names in Canada and the US. Up here, he's in ads for a mens clothing chain called Moore's.

With the ability to record/DVR things, I don’t really see commercials. The only live TV I watch with any regularity (apart from the Premier League) is baseball. And I mute the hell out of the commercials. So I’ve never seen any of these bastards and thank fuck for that.

They're owned by a big men's clothing conglomerate called Tailored Brands. They bought Jos. A. Bank, Men's Wearhouse, Moore's and a bunch of other men's clothing companies.
