Daylight Savings Time?

Postby Jimbo » 31 Aug 2018, 13:59

In Japan there is no DST. I ask because for the Tokyo Olympics to be held in August 2020 there is concern that the afternoon sun will be too hot, dangerously so, for the athletes to compete. The spectators will have a hard time too. Japanese Augusts are brutal so they are considering moving up the time two hours so that a normal 12:00 will be 2:00 and a little bit cooler. Apparently they can't change the date of the event because American TV network (NBC) needs the excitement for the usually slow TV watching month. Anyway, I grew up with DST and the inconvenience lasts only an hour - lost or gained sleep, and then its routine. My wife, however, is against it for no good reason. She's just against it and angry that American TV is controlling Japanese events.

Only today in the news there's talk of getting rid and having Summertime all year round in the EU

80% of EU citizens don't like having to change the clocks.

Seems pretty pointless in this day and age.

As an interesting aside, Spain is always strange because its clock is so totally out of sync with real time. Actual noon, i.e. when the Sun is highest in the sky, is as late as 2 PM. That's the main reason why they are so slow to get to work in the morning, why they eat their lunch at 3 PM and why they have their evening meal as late as 10 PM. Essentially, they are all following their body clocks and living their lives to real time and not Franco time .

One reason I was told was so in the winter school children go to school in the daylight especially so they needn't wait in the dark for school busses. The country roads can be dangerous.

And for Tokyo I think they should adopt the plan at least for the Olympics.

I'm surprised we still have a say in the matter. I mean, I only have to reset a couple of clocks with hands and the microwave, otherwise, I'd just wake up with the hour added or removed by THE MAN once I look at my device. What’s to stop them from doing it whenever the hell they want?

I hate it as it interferes with my football viewing. Every match is on an hour later and I usually fall asleep by half time :(

It's stupid.
If you've got nothing to do, don't do it here.
