Aphex Twin, Alice Coltrane (?) Malcolm Gladwell, Steven Pinker and what looks like an electronic smoking pipe. Could it get any worse?

Mingus, not Coltrane. The orange book is Daniel Kahneman's "Thinking Fast and Slow", and the black book is about Oracle DB performance, which is even worse than Gladwell.

The pipe isn't electronic. Nor has it ever been used.
Like fast-moving clouds casting shadows against a hillside, the melody-loop shuddered with a sense of the sublime, the awful unknowable majesty of the world.

I don't have a camera.

- mosaic candle holder we got in California
- small button fern in a coffee cup
- my husband's ashes
- a photo of us in the Stardust hotel pool the day before we got married, 2001
- small Tiffany-style lamp with dragonflies
- a photo of Marathon Key, where we celebrated Ken's b'day, circa '98
- small crystal ashtray
- mini tower fan

My desk at work features a picture-a-day New York calendar, a Rome calendar, various documents about thrilling things like benefits overpayment recovery, Council Tax banding, rent charge calculations, the Capita revenues & benefits system, many souvenir snowglobes from city breaks, photos of my nieces and Danny Dyer (not together), a vintage Alsatian soft toy clad in a gingham skirt, and - frequently but not always- a small bag of Twiglets.
