Great things about drinking alcohol

Postby Minnie the Minx » 16 May 2018, 22:17

I love drinking. I hope I never have to stop.
This is the thread for all the small nice things about drinking.
As I’m in this situation right now I’ll start:

The knowing, friendly smile you give to someone else at the bar during day drinking, when you know you are all lucky enough to have the time off to be drinking during the day.
You come at the Queen, you best not miss.

I went to a wedding at a Wine resort in Tuscany last weekend. We drank a shedload of great red wine, but the Aperol Spritz cocktails were the best. There is something undeniable about quaffing very good alcohol under the sun in a fantastic location that is hard to beat.

The incomparable shoulder shrug feeling when you meant to have just one, decide on a second and draw a line through the rest of the plans for the day.
You come at the Queen, you best not miss.

That warm, shuddery feeling you get from the first draught.

Watching the drops of condensation slowly rolling down your frosty beer glass on a hot day.

The juxtaposition of listening to great music and having a really good drink in your hand, to the exclusion of all else.

Like listening to Beethoven's 6th or Miles Davis accompanied by a large glass of Laphroaig.

Or pairing Bulleit 95 Rye with a Slim Harpo lp.

Not quite all else, I do like to see what the car in front is doing.
It takes a big man to cry, but it takes a bigger man to laugh at that man.

:D

Please allow me to extend this a bit:

in the company of a Belgian Westmalle Triple, I seem to discover intrinsic values in music that I can't listen to whilst sober.

(Kraftwerk, Air, moderate prog, like Yes, Mike Oldfield, etc.)

In the company of a third Westmalle, I feel and think that I play guitar just as well as Ry Cooder - my slide exercises are exceptional.

Even after waking up the next day, I sense: well, it may not have been so good as I thought it was, but hey: I did feel that during 15 mins. or so, so it was true after all!
On the whole, I'd rather be in Wallenpaupack.

It makes sitting in a bar by yourself a bit less creepy.

Best answer in terms of social psychology & general psychopathology so far.

I know the experience quite well, I must add.
On the whole, I'd rather be in Wallenpaupack.
