Windows updates

Postby BOLLY BEE » 10 May 2018, 12:30

I've deleted every last bastard file/download/unwanted program/picture/bit of media and this fucking thing STILL says 'not enough space'. This has gone on for weeks! I've nothing left!

I'm not going to buy external storage just for an update to Windows 10. Why does this thing need 100000 MB?

Windows 10 is utter shit.

Yeah, I agree.

I think I'll have to roll back (?) to Windows 8 or something. This is driving me up the wall.

Get a chromebook! If you're looking for something just to surf the net and throw up an odd document etc, it's the job!

I'm not shelling out for anything new right now. I shouldn't have to - this laptop is only a year old.

You could sell your laptop, even though it's a year old. If you want to send me your e mail I can send you a doc on how to deep-ish clean your computer.

You've not got one of those cheap laptops with just 32GB of flash storage, by any chance? Getting them upgraded is a pain, but can be done, although sometimes you have to remove software temporarily to do so.

Try running Disk Cleanup found under Windows Administration Tools. It'll scan the system, looking for things that can be deleted such as previous Windows installations, download caches and the like.

You probably just need to delete the thousands of pictures of K you have been saving for later defacement!

So I just need the memory space temporarily? I'll have enough disk space after the upgrade to reinstall Skype, iTunes etc?

I’ve got copies of the pics in my Dropbox (BCB bookmarks/baldie) if you need them.

Microsoft effectively give manufacturers Windows for free as long as they have no more than 32 GB of flash storage. Hence there's an abundance of cheap machines running to that specification, whilst those with a little more flash storage or a proper hard drive are considerably more expensive as the price also includes a Windows license.

Aha! thanks!

I've finally managed to start the upgrade, having deleted absolutely every single thing from the PC. I just hope there's enough space to reinstall essential progs once this has finished!
