Sure, if it's a friendly situation.

I remember once our band was waiting for our turn to go do a commuity radio interview, and the people on their way out of the studio had run the black-power political program that had just finished. They came out and started chatting us up in the green room, and it turned out we had some mutual friends in the recording world. After a brief friendly chat, they went on their way. Our bass player, a former Londoner, said that kind of conversation could have never happened when he was a younger man... not that he had any trouble with those folks but, that it would never happen that those two groups would look at each other and find something to talk about.

I was like, "really?" We just talked to them for a minute and we already discovered something in common.
