Not if they have one of these hilarious mugs in the staff room!

The only teachers who want to be armed at school are the ones who shouldn't be teachers.

I don't know if any of you caught the CNN town hall last night but Marco Rubio must have set a record for choking on ones testicles. Amazing strength from the parents, students & staff there. I can't even begin to imagine having to civilly confront a politician who has been culpable in the death of your child. And the kids were just outstanding.

Eating some farm fresh eggs (scrambled) and homemade buttermilk biscuits with local blackberry jam while watching terrorist Wayne LaPierre warn CPAC attendees about the "socialist wave" overtaking the U.S.

well, you know progress is being made, however small, when guys like Wayne start saying "socialist".
TRUMP said he'd have the DOJ "look" at getting rid of bump stocks. Marco said he'd be "willing to talk about" raising the age for gun buyers.
Normally such do nothing gestures wouldn't be very encouraging but BOTH those guys usually throw the reddest of meat to their PRO-NRA base.
Both those guys saying "look" and "willing" shows that there is an undeniable political change in the air on this issue. Hopefully legislators will strike while the iron is hot and get some meaningful bills happening before the next time. Even if they don't pass and even if the only leadership is what we have right now with the young people in Florida, there could be debate and pressure. I think gun industry whores like TRUMP and Rubio even pretending to be open to more legislation is a big hariy deal. will the moment pass as it always does? maybe not. something new has been added but all it will take is for one of those kids to burp on an open mike and all of them will get the big shun.

I agree progress is being made, however miniscule, but that opinion is based on the actions of average citizens and really has nothing to do with Trump, Rubio, or LaPierre's use of socialism to rile. Fear tactics are certainly nothing new for the NRA. Just think about someone with mental issues watching this:

yeah, those things REALLY cross a line. the NRA has been getting away with incendiary rhetoric for years but Dana Loesch really takes it to a truly ghoulish extreme. those things seem to be made for the express purpose of making people freak out.

Laughed hard at the Daily Show take on arming teachers when host Trevor Noah says to remember when the teacher blamed you for talking in class when the talker was the guy sitting next to you or that when the teacher threw an eraser at your head he missed and hit the guy next to you. This is the teacher Trump wants to arm.

Hope I'm wrong, but despite other posters' optimism, I fear any protest will quickly fizzle out and be forgotten only to experience another short-term rebirth the next time there's a mass shooting in a school, mall, cinema or church.

One suspects the only thing that might shake things up for real is if some lunatic started shooting the delegates at an NRA meeting (god only knows there'd be plenty of suspects/victims gathered inside). Wonder if they allow guns inside. One suspects probably not.

As for Trump's cockamamie idea about arming teachers. Assuming such lunacy ever gets off the ground, I wonder how long it would be before the first teacher started offing the sassier students in Civics 101

I don't see this being forgotten anytime soon, though I do wonder if the upcoming summer break will help or harm the movement.

Guns at an NRA meeting? That'd be madness! Of course those cowards don't allow them.

Whenever I see civilians open-carrying firearms I want to ask them what the hell they're so afraid of, but they'd probably shoot me, so I keep mum. People living in a perpetual state a panic, paranoia, and fear are dangerous enough without adding a deadly weapon into the mix. I should add that in all of my adult years living in the southern U.S. I can't recall seeing even one person of color open-carrying. It's generally old white dudes and their women or occasional a younger white guy. But I guess that's because all gun-owning POC are criminals or something.

I don’t claim to know how long it will last. But something remarkable is happening in front of our eyes. It’s not even just remarkable in terms of politics. It goes deeper than that.

Over the last week or so we’ve all seen dozens of spokespeople emerge from this tragedy. Has there ever been an instance of shared grief that has so quickly morphed itself into a shared sense of group purpose?

I wouldn’t bet against the people of this community. They are clearly reinforcing each other to push through their grief and push on. I think they collectively view their new mission as something they owe the dead. I think this runs very deep.
The opinions of this poster are subjective. That’s how opinions work.

Obama called for people to join together after Sandy Hook and pressure politicians, which was a good start, but those were little children, and you obviously can't expect them to collectivise, conduct walkouts, etc. This, like most things worth struggling for will be a long process. I have faith in the people of the community, but not the politicians. Regardless if chumps like Rubio make slight concessions, his kind must go. There simply must be better options out there.

The NRA and right-wing media are really amping up their fear induction levels. The drop in firearm sales that has occurred since their pretender has taken office is sure to reverse.

I'm very thankful I don't have children.
