Shooting in Florida

Another US shooting, another US school.
We can only hope the report is incorrect...

Afraid it looks very real. The footage from above shows a very large police operation at play. :(

The news broke on CNN while I was at lunch.

My kids have had to go through a few lockdowns during the years with suspected people on campus having guns.

But then again, you can't wear red or blue at their schools because of gang affiliation.

I don't know if Nortenos or Surenos really vote.

At least the 18th school shooting of the year today: it’s Feb. 14

And we've only had around 35 or so school days.

17 reported killed and another 19 wounded. Death toll could go up.

The shooter was 19 and attended the school. He showed up and started shooting shortly before school let out.

Jeff Greenwald of ABC News just posted this on Twitter. . .

In the rest of the world, there have been 18 school shootings in the last twenty years. In the U.S., there have been 18 school shootings since January 1--35 days.

I'm numb and that's wrong.

you know how people say that Fonzie jumping the shark is when that TV show turned a corner for the worse?
well, I think that's what these God damned school shootings have done to my culture. we are on a steep decline.
kids getting fucking shot in schools is like getting a few inches of rain. that's wrong. we've done more than jump the shark - we've gutted it and are dancing around in it's intestines. we're SICK, man. I hope we get better but right now I really doubt it.

I am watching a profoundly BULLSHIT response from the state of Florida right now.
Let U be the set of all united sets, K be the set of the kids and D be the set of things divided.
Then it follows that ∀ k ∈ K: K ∈ U ⇒ k ∉ D

I read the responses of some of the parents and they were still arguing that there’s no point in trying to change the gun laws as ‘there are already so many guns out there’.

Well, YEAH, but it would still help! Wouldn’t it?

While I support the general sentiment, I'd like to see that fact-checked.

The fact that it's highly plausible says enough though.

this one's been doing the rounds on social media. the only thing missing are that the dead bodies don't include any children.

Mmm I'd say it absolutely doesn't. And I'm not sure it is that plausible (which is why I questioned it a bit) - but either way if it's shown not to be accurate then why give the gun brigade the ammunition that liberals are exaggerating and peppering the debate with agenda-driven half-truths.

This is the Guardian suggests it's actually 8 shootings with injuries or deaths in schools this year

https://www.theguardian.com/world/2018/feb/14/school-shootings-in-america-2018-how-many-so-far

Just seven weeks into 2018, there have been eight shootings at US schools that have resulted in injury or death.

Bad enough! I suppose it could be that there have been a further 10 incidents with firearms - 'school shootings' - this year. The wording is ambiguous.

It's bewildering that this is allowed to go on in the US. I'm really surprised a stronger grass roots movement hasn't emerged to confront it. There should be millions marching on Washington to change the gun laws. I should also add that I'm very aware that many Americans, including the ones on here, are every bit as appalled by these endless atrocities as the rest of the world is. My heart goes out to you.

Knowing that not all gun owners are red neck caricatures I wonder what a usually fair minded gun owner is thinking as they watch this news. Some guilt I have to assume. A Hollywood story would have good Americans from all across the land turning their guns over to the police to handle.
