You had the hiccups?

I got them today at work and I can't remember getting them since I was a little kid around 9 or 10.

Twice within the last month. First time I was reading my class a story (Wunderpants by Paul Jennings), think I laughed while trying to breathe, then that night woke myself up with hiccups (around half two in the morning). Not the first time I've woken myself up with hiccups, probably the third time in the last year. I find a cup of tea seems to settle them down.

Definitely within the last month. I get 'em a few times a year, probably. Never while sleeping, though!

Since no-one asked, my cure is to swallow a half-spoonful of dry sugar. I don't know why that works, but it does for me.

The only cure absolutely guaranteed to work is to *not* think about a pink elephant.

I get hiccups every time I shave. I don't really understand why, and it really doesn't help, though I've read it's fairly common. They stop when I've finished shaving, too. Other than shaving related, I don't recall ever having hiccups.

It's kinda like a series of backwards coughs - violently inhaling instead of expelling air. And you don't know when each one is going to happen.

That's the irritating part of it. You can usually feel coughs or sneezes coming on, but not a hiccup. And unlike a burp, as described, there's no satisfaction. They keep on going until they feel like they're done.

Drinking a glass of water usually works for me.

Funnily enough the other day it occurred to me I hadn't had hiccups in YEARS.

I had them a few weeks ago for a minute. I have a way of curing them that always works.

Lie down on a bed on your back with the upper body hanging off the edge but not touching the floor. Take a few slow deep breaths and voila they are gone. I can sometimes get rid of them by simple breath control without the bed. It's caused by a spasm of the diaphragm so stretching it helps get rid of the spasm. You're welcome.

I don't keep a log. But a shot of Grenadine helps if you have it handy.

This. It has absolutely worked for me and whomever I have managed to convince of it's efficaciousness - my wife and one student.

I've had life hiccups, too many to mention, but can't remember the last time I had physical hiccups.

Just had the buggers 30 minutes ago. Thankfully lasted only about 5 minutes.

I used to get them as a child but I’ve never had them as an adult. They’re quite common in children but goodness knows why!

They’re quite good fun for a while. I’d quite like them now and then :D
