We had our British XMAS meal today. I specifically took charge of the Brussels sprouts to make certain they wouldn’t be boiled into submission.
Me: how do you want the sprouts done? Roasted? Steamed?
I steamed them and made sure they weren’t over cooked. They weren’t perfect but they were as good as steamed, unadorned sprouts were gonna be.
Me: were the sprouts ok?
Wife: they were a bit undercooked.
Me: my only goal was for them to not get boiled into watery submission.
Wife: yeah but that’s how they’re supposed to be at British Xmas.
