Mass shooting in Vegas...

Postby martha » 02 Oct 2017, 07:50

There was a shooting in Vegas tonight during the RT91 Harvest country music festival. At least 2 people are dead, and at least 20 hospitalized, the news is still breaking and reports are preliminary. The videos online are horrifying.

I am so sick of attacks like this and as a music lover and fan of live gigs I really hate seeing people's ability to enjoy music with their family and friends is being threatened in this manner.

Couple of preliminary reports here:

There has been a marked ramping up of violence in Las Vegas in the past couple of years, particularly on "The Strip". This looks terrible and, as I and others know only too well, the Las Vegas Strip is almost unpoliceable if sometime actually decides to perpetrate this kind of attack.
In other words an extended look into *******’s head, and it seems to have some pretty good things in it (who among us is totally free of mental garbage?) It’s nice to see that he is confident enough so he can play some blues again,I’d like to hear more.

I have several friends in Vegas tonight -- thankfully all are safe. They are saying now that the police are reporting 20 dead, 100's injured. The shooter was a local Vegas man, but they have not released his name yet.

Horrible and tragic. There is no legitimate reason for any private individual to own assault weaponry.

So the shooter was on the 32nd floor, taking pot shots at concert goers in a remote location.

Fucking hell.

It didnl't sound like pot shots - it sounded like someone unloading magazine after magazine into the crowd.

...is what I read.

Talk of people running around for 20 minutes, in some living hell of panic.
On the whole, I'd rather be in Wallenpaupack.

CNN now reporting 'more than 20 dead, more than 100 injured'.

Terrorist-style attacks in Edmonton and Marseille at the weekend too.

Christ.

Sorry - I meant he/they was on the 32nd floor of the hotel, firing at spectators in a remote location (the actual arena is quite some distance from the hotel - the photo on the website explains).

That picture reminds me of the incredible photo from Charlottesville last month. Just terrible.

As is this one, for different reasons - I mean you'd think if you see the police doing eveyrthing they can to hide every part of their body, you'd perhaps do something other than check your phone.

50 dead. 200 wounded. It's just mind-bogglingly awful shit.

He clearly must have had mental health issues, but what the press and everyone will go with is that he was a leftist and liked a bunch of anti-trump groups. Trump and his supporters will have a fucking field day with that. This is not going to lead to anything positive for us as a nation. You can be sure of that. Fuckity.

Everyone has or has had mental health issues, it's a matter of degrees.

Abhorrent actions with desperately sad results.

It is.

On the psychiatric issues: yes, disorders occur in degrees, and in many forms.

Which inevitably leads to the question: can people purchase heavy assault guns without being screened thoroughly?

I really don't know any details on these matters, by the way.

Las Vegas has some of the least stringent gun laws in the US.

Which, to put it mildly, means just about anyone can just about buy anything.
