When that happens and you have to boil water for tea in a pan it's always wrong.

My toaster broke on Tuesday, and I've had to resort to using a grill to brown bread ever since. It feels almost medieval.
Like fast-moving clouds casting shadows against a hillside, the melody-loop shuddered with a sense of the sublime, the awful unknowable majesty of the world.

There isn't a household in Japan without one of these. It boils the water and then keeps it warm in a thermos and I have boiling hot water whenever I want tea or a cup of noodles.
