Things that cheer you up

What makes everything better?

Pictures of babies/cats/dogs doing silly things?

A particular album?

Comfort Food?

Kraftwerk, mild psychedelic drugs, reading a really good book, sitting outside in the sun on a midweek whilst everyone else is working, sourdough toast amongst other things.

Truth be told, I've not been "down" for some time apart from that brush with cancer a while back.

Forcing myself to smile. It works. The bigger my phony smile the better I feel.

The Vile Stuff

It takes a big man to cry, but it takes a bigger man to laugh at that man.

I was pretty disheartened after our Montana election yesterday, and what made me feel better was looking at my kid's art. Children's art is freaking amazing.

My niece Opal. Hanging out with her makes everything alright, no matter how sad I get.

Someone named Eve dancing in her apartment to old hot jazz records nine-plus years ago.

I can do a little show for myself, not unlike wild Eve, there.

Kids are usually a winner, for me.
They're spontaneous and weird and just don't give a Damn.

It struck me as ironic, we had a bad day in work yesterday with a very sick child. And after work, my colleague sent me a picture of his tiny wee nephew in sunglasses to cheer us up. Like hair of the dog.

At the moment baking and running. These things also equal out nicely.

I was just coming in to post that it's less of a thing, more of a person, Rayge. And occasionally that Beaste.

But I don't need so much cheering up these days.

A day without news about a tweet by Mister T.

Any day without experiencing any form of advertising.

Musing abour my upcoming re-reads of Joseph Conrad's Heart Of Darkness and Nostromo.
On the whole, I'd rather be in Wallenpaupack.

Countryside walks with my son. He whinges continually about not wanting to go out, then you put him on a hill and he's unstoppably happy; adventuring, spotting random things, chopping at ferns with bits of sticks.

Fresh baked bread. I cheat, using a bread maker, but home-baked bread is a genuine pleasure.

Old goth 12"s, especially of the Alien Sex Fiend variety.

Beer and a bag of crisp by a stretch of water.

Wine and cheese and crackers.

John Coan's Shit or Hit
Like fast-moving clouds casting shadows against a hillside, the melody-loop shuddered with a sense of the sublime, the awful unknowable majesty of the world.

Children is my number one answer. They really are spontaneous and they really don't give a damn who's watching or listening (as long as everyone is).

Kittens
Flowers that volunteer themselves in my garden
Found money
A good bakery
Stories with happy endings
Nature ... wild flowers, birds, squirrels ... etc.

Karma getting evil people and/or my enemies.
If love could've saved you, you would've lived forever.
