A long time go, so surely no one will get hurt, but I have a question ...

Postby billy » 10 May 2017, 17:45

... was Kenji real?

I recall some debate a while after he left. Some claimed he was a Yank. And Jimbo even met him at one stage [when the Mojo boards were still the place to be] (was he an ex-pat?)

Not trying to tread on any toes, just came across something he sent me -- and it set alight my curiosity again.

This is a relatively serious post so I won't taint it with a trite comment at the end ... that's your job, I predict.

Who was Maccafan?

Was he concurrent with Kenji?

I'm shit at placing all these names ...

I miss Plaxico too

Or is he here (occasionally or whatever) with a new moniker?

Who's Kenji? Do you have your own fight club Billy? Nevermind, I know the first rule.

Ha! I kind of like that.

I should let this go.

And simply cherish the thought of him, as if he were a teddy I lost on the Isle of Wight in 1972 ... I can conjure up the whiff of it now

I thought someone mentioned that he was Irish and had red hair. Somehow I remember something like that. He'd met a few BCBers, I think.

He send me burned copies of the Albert Ayler box along with a bunch of other stuff. Cool handwriting, postmarked Tokyo.
Long way to go for a hoax online personality.
Let U be the set of all united sets, K be the set of the kids and D be the set of things divided.
Then it follows that ∀ k ∈ K: K ∈ U ⇒ k ∉ D

To be fair I met Plaxico twice whilst holidaying in Florida.

A great guy - lots of fun, drove hundreds of miles for both meetings, generous and knowledgeable.

Top man, honestly.

Yeah, the story that came out was that he was a British guy living in Japan who was for some reason pretending on the forum to be Japanese and posting in broken English. A couple of posters had met him and agreed to keep schtum about it, but then I think one of them spilled the beans in a PM to someone else, and eventually we all found out...

Pretty sure the music taste was authentically his though!

Indeed. He was a true music (and sneakers) otaku. And I miss his posts very much. He saw so many shows and his reviews in the now gigging thread were helpful guides. It may have been me "the yenta" who whispered to another poster that Kenji wasn't Japanese. I thought his act was brilliant and too delicious to not share the secret. He was Scottish and his wife was Japanese. She was a doll and spoke English with the most charming Scottish accent. Not sure why he left the board. I think some posters got rude about his identity game. But he never struck me as particularly sensitive guy. He was a guy! And a good pool player, too. I thought he would come back either as Kenji or himself someday but so far he hasn't. Or maybe he's here in another guise. :?
