Fuck the numbers. Even if it's a wishlist written on the back of a fag packet, at least it's a wishlist heading in the right direction.

it may be that, to quote Orwell, "some things are true, even though the Daily Telegraph says they are true."

Like I say, I'll be very interested to see how they've costed all their spending pledges, and to see what The Economist et al make of them.

And i'm not sure how the figures can be nonsense when they haven't announced them yet.

They may well be total cobblers when they do announce them, but I would suggest it is too early to be certain!

Hope they don't rope in Dianne Abbott to run the numbers by the press.

Rebecca Long Bailey just gave an interview with Radio 4 that made Diane's maths stumbling look like she had discovered radioactivity.

Got to love the Guardian, Headline today something along the lines of

Len McClusky's statement about how many Labour seats he'd be happy with over shadows Labour manifesto launch

i.e. we have decided to ignore the Labour manifesto launch and lead with a damaging story about some unguarded comments by a Union flunky

Come on man, what do you expect? If McCluskey is too stupid to keep his big gob shut and says something as daft as that, of course journalists are going to report it. They'd do the same if a big Tory donor said something like that about May and the Conservatives.

Meanwhile, in a stroke of genius clearly calculated to counter widespread accusations of being in thrall to far left extremists, the Labour leadership have appointed Andrew Murray as their campaign manager.

That's Andrew Murray, the longstanding (40 years) member of first the Communist Party of Great Britain and subsequently the Communist Party of Britain, and apologist for Stalin and North Korea.

No such thing as unguarded comments when journos are around as McCluskey well knows.

Re the appointment of Murray, it's gone several stops past they don't want to win. Now they're not even putting up a pretence of trying to win. Perhaps they think that particularly thick voters will think he's the former Wimbledon winner

I think you both miss the point.

By any reasonable standard the Labour Party Manifesto should be the bigger story.

As an asside the CPGB were never exactly a radical organisation and contrary to what you might think in my experience they were staffed by slightly befuddled and posh old gentlefolk rather than Stalinist urban guerillas

It was the right of the Labour party that was always more Stalinist - purging any factions that didn't tow the line.

Murray smartarse!

I mean, if you want to win over swing voters etc then maybe appointing somebody who is self confessed communist might not be the smartest move

I haven't a clue. Does it matter? It's a job. Is he a good campaign manager might be a more pertinent question.

Ironically, I bet Putin is rootin' for Theresa May and he was in the KG fucking B!
