What Was The Most Embarrassing Car You Ever Owned?

Fiat Oasis I think it was called. A little car that could be out run by a wind-up toy. The was a leak in the roof, so when It was raining hard enough I got a free shower just left of my head. Got it for college and it got me from A to B, surprisingly.

You?

This one, a 2002 Honda Civic 1.6. It's our current car and it's a piece of (reliable and quite economic) shit. It just looks RUBBISH.

We had a Pinto station wagon before that too that I drove around.

I had two of these. both reliable enough, but they had sealed unit headlamps, which meant that every time a bulb blew, you had to replace the whole unit ( nearly a weeks money. And they blew all the time.

1982 Toyota Tercel, purchased in about 1990. Red, two door. Known as The Beast to those who knew. I can't say I was embarrassed, though. It was quite liberating and I was happy to have it. Manual transmission was quite zippy, given that it was just an elaborate riding lawn mower.

I also inherited a 1969 Plymouth Valiant when we had to take away my grandmother's license. It would ping whenever you pressed the gas to go up a hill.

Toby has the right idea. The old, cheap cars were what we could afford, nothing embarrassing about that, plus they had interesting design. It's only a more modern generically aerodynamic fiberglass car that's embarrassing.

I've driven (and killed) the following:
Ford Maverick
Oldsmobile 88
Cadillac Sedan De Ville
Plymouth Valiant
Mercury Cougar
Honda Prelude (x2)

Now driving a '91 Toyota Corolla, and it's the best car I've ever driven. 320,000 miles on the original engine.

"The parade car!"

Image

My pal dubbed it the parade car because of the way it would suddenly backfire followed by smoke billowing from the beneath the hood like some kooky clown car.

It was my father's car. He had a knack for buying the worst cars. According to Consumer Reports the best thing about the car was its durable paint job. But like any gift horse I shouldn't kick it in the teeth because it was new-ish and free! I was leaving home and Dad presented it to me for my new life in Seattle. It got me to Seattle and was the first car my now wife knew me by. Years later I told him what a piece of crap he had given me and he said, "Yeah, I had nothing but trouble with it."
I love you.

Can't really say I've ever been embarrassed by any car I've owned. They've all done what I bought them to do, but if I had to give negative marks based solely on looks, my old '94 Ford Escort wagon would get 'em.

The one I had before it, though, was pretty great. '72 Dodge Dart:
