Don Rickles RIP

Postby sloopjohnc » 06 Apr 2017, 20:36

I was just watching a bunch of his stuff on YouTube last week. I even liked his short-lived sitcom, CPO Sharkey.

You couldn't avoid seeing him on old sitcoms and talk shows. RIP.
Where would rock 'n' roll be without feedback?

Ahhh shit. I really liked him. Mainstay of all those great old UK talk shows, some great footage of him ripping the piss out of Sinatra - nobody else would get away with it.

RIP Don.

If love could've saved you, you would've lived forever.

The reason he got away with it is because everyone knew it was an act. He was obviously playing a character, and never got truly mean-spirited, so it was always in good fun. Offstage, he was known to be a genuinely nice person. He and Bob Newhart were lifelong best friends, and why not. A long life, apparently well-lived, so good on him. An equal opportunity offender and tremendously funny man. I thought he was dead already or I'd be more saddened.

The first time I saw him (though I wasn't aware of who he was at the time) was on The Andy Griffith Show. He played a traveling salesman with bad luck.

I'm sure I saw that, although I more clearly recall his appearances on "Gomer Pyle," and "CPO Sharkey."

The Dickies got national exposure on the latter.

He also loved BEING insulted. That's the sweet thing. The clip where Johnny Carson walks next door to harrass Rickles who'd broken his cigarette box is classic. Rickles loves it.

Watching Jimmy Kimmel video and John Stamos says he knew Rickles' computer password: HITLER.
I love you.
