I'm not sure it's fair to call it surrealism when many of these scenes can actually be found in real life in the Namib desert, in the crumbling buildings ravaged by sandstorms, or the severely weathered remains of early 20th century shipwrecks.

All of those are pretty cool, but I especially like the second one. A lot of surrealist stuff is way too busy for me. There's a stark elegance to these that I find very appealing.
Gentlemen, you can't fight in here! This is the War Room.

Really nice stuff there! Reminds me a bit of the film Northfork in style.

I am looking at the real thing as I type this. It's on the wall outside my bedroom.

Hockney at Tate Britain is fantastic - one of the best retrospectives in years. Sadly it didn't include the computer drawing of Green Gartside I remember from my youth, but so many great big paintings.

Would have love to have gone and seen the Hockney retrospective but won't be able to meet the dates unfortunately.

Have you read his History of Pictures from the back end of last year, GM? He really is wonderfully thought provoking when it comes to explaining the intricate ins and outs of what's involved in actualising both his own and other artists' vision

Thanks! The book arrived today and looks great. I hope you get to see a Hockney retrospective somewhere sometime.

The Century Guild Museum and Gallery is reprinting the "lost" Art Nouveau masterpiece by Alphonse Mucha Le Pater, which one can preorder here:

It looks wonderful. Now craving.
