More than non-face-tatted people?

It is not a good look, I agree.

I would imagine it limits your chances of employment, as well.

They limit your chances at pretty much anything belonging to the realm of the 'normal'. For that reason alone I think they're kinda cool. I'd never do it myself, mind you.

Indeed. Nothing says 'rebel' quite like a face tattoo. Well, 'rebel' or 'felon'.

Such a thin line between rebel and felon sometimes...

That reminds me of this Kubrick quote:
"I've got a particular weakness for criminals and artists. Neither takes life as it is."

Something tells me ol' Stan never kicked it with face-tatters.

There was a dude in Aberdeen whose entire head was covered in tatts. His nickname locally was MAF (mad as fuck). I used to see him regularly when I lived there,

Wary? Not really.

But I do feel sorry for them. Most people find them quite repulsive, if done in excess. What I feel is more like commiseration.

From a distance I know a handsome young guy. From a very unstable family background. He first drifted away in drugs and alcohol, and nowadays he's more or less sober; but way back then he decided to have his face tatooed big time.

It is a sad sight. While the substances didn't really age him, the tattoos took away the youthful looks, the bright naïveté that there surely was.

He looks: plain sinister.
The invisible and the non-existing very much look alike.

Neck tattoos can be gorgeous. I see plenty round here. Many things may make someone a fuckwit, but art on the neck is not one of them.

"Wary" isn't the right word, but I would immediately think "this is a person I would have no common interests with."

I've probably mentioned this before, but in the late 70s and early 80s there was a huge skinhead population in Teesside, mainly around Stockton, who referred to themselves as the Psycho Skins. I knew a few of them and one of them told me that one of the group had gone to a tattooist to get the words Psycho Skins tattooed onto the side of his head. Except the tattooist actually tattooed Physco Skins instead.

At least I suppose he could grow his hair back over it ...

I fail to understand why you'd be wary of facial tattooing. With regard to aesthetics it depends on the tattoo and the skill of the tattooist. I've seen lots of great facial tattoos and lots of shit ones. Mrs JKB has an ear tattooed and its discreet and feminine, she also wants one on the side of her nose.

I don't think the question is one of aesthetics, but rather of the bearer's irrevocable commitment to outsider status. That was my take, anyway.

Where I am from they usually denote
a. prison time
b. gang or neo-nazi affiliation/membership
c. "tribal" body decor

The gang and prison stuff is DESIGNED to intimidate and make you wary, so yeah, that has it's desired outcome or effect on me, yes. When it's decorative tribal stuff it can look cool.

You seem to give my view on this much more depth than is warranted. Mostly I just feel they're ugly, regardless of the quality of the work done or whatever. I kinda hate tattoos, though. Not so big on piercings either.

As Martha described, there's better than 50% chance I'd be wary but it would really depend on other factors including environment. Most of the ones I've seen have appeared to be of the intimidating variety. I don't like being around people who need to intimidate others as a way to interact. It seems a common thread with some people. I choose not to associate with those type.
