... former Deputy Assistant Director Terry Turchie on Fox’s Tucker Carlson Tonight. In a passing tangent largely unrelated to the rest of the interview, Turchie made the following shocking statement in relation to the ongoing Russiagate saga:

“And I think we can expect more of this, because quite honestly the electorate in some places is putting more and more progressives and self-described socialists in positions. And ironically, years ago, when I first got into the FBI, one of the missions of the FBI in its counterintelligence efforts was to try and keep these people out of government. Why? Because we would end up with massive dysfunction and massive disinformation and massive misinformation, and it seems to me that’s where we’re at today.”

Of course the former FBI administrator said this a whole four days ago so it is no longer relevant but I thought maybe it might be fun to read just for its quaintness. The FBI used to meddle in US elections but they wouldn't do it now would they? Nah. (Cough Lisa Page and Peter Strzok)

Bernie's not a Democrat, though.
Let U be the set of all united sets, K be the set of the kids and D be the set of things divided.
Then it follows that ∀ k ∈ K: K ∈ U ⇒ k ∉ D

I guess not. Apparently he now belongs to Putin's party, United Russia.

See, you'd think something like this would have JIMBO written all over it. But no.

Anybody see that Anastasia Vashukevich piece on the Maddow show last night? That freaking story is nuts.

Please explain your point re me and the snippet from Deripaska's Wikipedia page. Did you read the whole page? Much less nefariousness than I thought. Most nefarious was this bit.

FBI recruitment attempt

According to anonymous sources cited by the 1 September 2018 New York Times′s report, Deripaska was twice approached by the U.S. government officials, including Bruce Ohr, as part of the U.S. government wider FBI–led recruitment effort to obtain informers in the circle close to Vladimir Putin: in September 2015 and in September 2016.[77] Ohr, then a United States Department of Justice official, was reported to have been in contact with the former employee of the British secret service MI6 Christopher Steele, who later compiled the incriminating dossiers on Donald Trump, and discussed cultivating Deripaska, among others.[77]

In September 2015, Ohr and Steele met with Deripaska to discuss "connections between Russian organized crime and Mr. Putin’s government, as well as other issues, according to a person familiar with the events." Deripaska laughed them off and did not agree to a second meeting.[77][78][79] Nevertheless, F.B.I. agents showed up unannounced at Deripaska's door in New York in September 2016.[77]

The attempts to turn Deripaska into an informant undertaken between 2014 and 2016 were unsuccessful, Deripaska notified the Russian authorities of the US efforts to recruit him,

Did Rachel Maddow mention this in her report? I would guess that turning down then ratting out the FBI is where his troubles with the US started.

The fucking US are the meddlers, the interferers, the colluders,

Released pending trial (or "accidental" death).

Also, I don't think she's so sexy, but hey, whatever floats your multi-million-ruble yacht. Sort of beside the point, anyway.

Huh? According to my link she was re-arrested because "She and her Russian associate were charged in Russia with inducement to prostitution."

My point is you probably watch Rachael Maddow and listen to Stephen Colbert's Russia baiting/Trump hating monologues and I can't explain what is going on in their heads except they like the millions they receive, I don't know, but if they are not outright lying they are certainly lying by omission, leaving out facts and opinions that contradict the obnoxious Russia meddling narrative. They must know there is a believable counter narrative which is what I keep on posting here to try and break the spell you seem to be under. Yeah it's nuts that stars like Colbert and Maddow can go out on big time TV and talk shit, dangerous shit IMO, but that is what is happening. The TV is lying to you. Almost everything we charge Russia of doing, jailing/killing journalists, overthrowing governments, meddling in elections, billionaires renamed "oligarchs" all somehow "connected" to Putin. That's the US, man! MLK called the US the “The greatest purveyor of violence in the world." You think things have changed since then? Sometimes you think they have like when Obama came along but he was not much better when it came to war than W or Trump. Turn off Maddow and Colbert. They're the squares, man. Time to dig the cool news and turn on the alternatives. And i don't mean Amy Goodman.

Here’s something I hadn’t thought of! The House could impeach but the Senate could decline to hold a trial. Innarestin.

the House has yet to even initiate an impeachment inquiry.

Like they'd ever. Waiting for the Mueller Report is probably their excuse for not even starting. I recalled there was talk of impeaching GW Bush. I also recall Pelosi saying it was "off the table" but I didn't know any details. But here is an interesting Wiki about "Efforts to impeach George W. Bush."

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Efforts_t ... ge_W._Bush

On May 10, 2006, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) indicated she was not interested in pursuing impeachment and had taken it "off the table", reiterating this phrase on November 8, 2006 after the election.[9][10] In July 2007, Pelosi stated that she "would probably advocate" impeaching Bush if she were not in the House nor Speaker of the House.

If you don't like that excuse, how about this one: there's no point in starting impeachment proceedings if they know they don't (yet) have enough support for it in the Senate.

If you don't like that one, I've got more.

If by now the Dems can't come up with anything beyond Trump colluding with Russia to win the election, i.e., treason - and Mueller needs to prove that (unlikely) - when even I will admit Trump is clearly a horror, a narcissistic congenital/pathological liar, clearly mentally unfit for the job, a perfect candidate for invoking the 25th Amendment, then I'd say Pelosi is not setting the table but is looking at another clean table. And I'd guess if the Dems made a good case for his craziness the Republicans would go along and convict for who is his replacement but Pence, a more perfect Republican.

Batshitcrazy though it may be, I think the Republicans are still hoping that Trump will win re-election next year. (And I'm not saying that he doesn't have a chance. We should never underestimate the Dems' ability to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.)

And I don't think Pence is really anybody's idea of a more perfect anything.

I think it's real important how the Dems deal with the shutdown. It looks like McConnell is cracking. this could really be the thing that finally sticks to those clowns.
