Old one seems to have dropped off the bottom of the page and into cyber oblivion. If anyone can find and point me to the former version will be happy to repost these there.

Tiny Laika when not long after we found her mewling pitiful on the windowsill one rainy, windy night

Having eaten almost the whole house, Laika is now almost as big as Xena.

I lost Molly two weeks ago.
She had an eye infection that would not clear.
I had to make a horrible decision.
If she were the sort of dog that could have been happy blind - and she may have been if she'd lost her sight gradually - I would have opted to take it out. But she would have been confused and frightened and would not have adapted.

I have tried not to dwell on it because if I do I fear I will fall into unbearable anxiety.
I don't deal well with loss. And I loved that dog.
Pretty much more than anything ever.

So sorry to hear that John.

Having lost a much-loved cat a couple of years back, I know first hand the grief caused when you're forced to say goodbye to a family member (and despite those who say "but it's just a dog/cat!", family members are ultimately what pets are).

While I know it's not much consolation, 14 is a good age for a dog and you'll always have many, many happy memories to offset the brief moment of pain when you had to do what was kindest for your pet and end his/her suffering.

While it might be too soon, there are lots of lovely dogs at the local shelter who'll be happy to try and fill that Molly-sized hole! And although they'll never ever quite manage it, they'll eventually dig a pretty big hole of their own.

Sorry to hear - the one downside of owning a pet is that horrible moment when you have to make that decision

Oh I know
Molly filled a huge Bosco hole when I took her on
I will never ever not have a dog.
And they will always be rescues.

I just need a little time to regroup.

I'll be moving north soon and the next one will be one that fits with the four of us in our new domestic situation.

The newest family member, Roscoe. Got him from our local shelter earlier today. He's a total goofball. I'm already in love.
