Let U be the set of all united sets, K be the set of the kids and D be the set of things divided.
Then it follows that ∀ k ∈ K: K ∈ U ⇒ k ∉ D

The whole "impact" debacle.

"Can I get?" rather than "please may I have?"

I just think that's a change we'll probably accept in 10 or 20 years when it becomes common parlance. It doesn't really bother me much.

I've never heard anybody say "please may I have".

It just sounds clunky and odd to me.

I think I've said 'can I get' my entire life

'Can I get' drives me nuts.

Worse is going to a shop/fast food spot and the cashier says "is that all?"
What, isn't that enough?! Just ring me up.

that's probably what I say, too, come to think of it.

Get sounds impertinent to me. You're not "getting" it; the other person is getting it for you. You're "having" it.

I don't see how it's impertinent when you want something on a menu. The person is not going to refuse you, they will get the item for you. As long as you say please and thank you I don't understand why this kind of shit would bother anybody. It's not the waiter is muttering under their breath "Ooo he used get instead of have, how impertinent".
