Your favourite brand of crisps

Postby Minnie the Minx » 10 May 2016, 17:21

Who's yer favourite fryer?
Stick to crisps with this vote. Maize snacks and cheese balls are another poll entirely.

Kettle, though I am also fond of Pringles for all their reconstitutedness.

Kettle rock , Tyrells are pretty funky too. Walkers remind me of school.

Hmmm. I should have added Kettles. They're great.

The 7-11 shops in Tokyo are everywhere. In fact there are three each within five minutes walk from my apartment. But that's not what I want to say. I want to say there is now a 7-11 brand of potato chips that are fantastic. No, there are three types. No, ridges, small ridges and a heartier fat ridges type. When I came to Japan the best were the ones in a can, which are pretty good too. But these 7-11 brands are really good and they're as cheap as … because they are ...

Based on the ready-to-eat thread of the last week and a half, I'm waiting for people to post that it's much cheaper and healthier to make their own crips at home.

Don't know about cheaper or healthier, but tastier certainly. I used to make batches regularly when I had a deep-fat fryer handy. Hand-cut, too.

I was never a big fan of the crisp after I got into double figures: when I was a wee boy, there was only one brand I was aware of, Smiths, which came with a twist of salt but were otherwise basic fried spud.
Of those listed, the only one I can ever remember eating with pleasure in the last decade or so are Tyrrells (with salt and/or pepper), so I voted for them.

My favorite - not on list. Basically reshaped corn chips with honey bbq flavor.

I voted Lays because they're the only ones from this list that we actually have over here. I think I had Walkers over there 23 years ago. Not bad. When we had a Marx & Sparx here in town, I would sometimes get their roasted chicken flavored ones.

There is so much to dislike about Walkers. Unfunny adverts featuring that repugnant human being Gary Lineker, the way they seemed to appear out of nowhere when taken over in the 1980s and then pretty much killed off the then staple of Golden Wonder before swallowing Smiths whole (I think), the whole way they traded off creating that cottage industry underdog perception while really having been turned into a voracious commercial velociraptor (like Warburtons bread or Greene King) by their new Pepsico masters. And they are going to be un-fucking bearable about the Premiership. I am happy for everyone with Leicester connections about the football... except Walkers and Gary Lineker.
Except they do make Worcester Sauce crisps.

Fuck the Worcester Sauce. What about their Smokey Bacon?
