All this talk about the elderly and infirm getting you down?

That and the fucking cup and frightened middle-aged men presenting their pusillanimity as principle (yeah I know that's grotesquely unfair, but a lovely piece of alliteration)
And life in general, and not enough of it left.
Well, you asked :)

To be honest i'm not sure what we're talking about. I just seen Toby's post and responded with no context.

I voted a great deal back then, and still feel that way today.

Let’s see if I can change that.

Maybe it's because I have gash on ignore now. Life on BCB is so much happier that way.

What's always bothered me is the assumption that if a person is on the "left" or "right", they must have a certain strictly defined set of beliefs. The problem there is that I've never seen any sort of internal consistency in the beliefs of either the left or the right.

Not a single working age demographic voted in the majority for the Conservatives at the last election.
The only age group that did, massively, were the OAPs

So you may as well say - people are socialists until they hit senility when they turn to the right.

It makes as much sense i.e. none.

It is a truism that has no real basis in fact used by people who have become more selfish with age to try and justify their moral failings to their fellow man to themselves.

If we are bandying around aphorisms, I think yours was attributed to De Gaul amongst many others, probably Churchill as well, the Oscar Wilde of politics:

The modern conservative is engaged in one of man's oldest exercises in moral philosophy; that is, the search for a superior moral justification for selfishness."
