I can understand your point running a small business or being on a crew where a missing pair of hands is a big hardship. Taking a day off in my profession would rarely be such an issue unless there' s a looming deadline and it's not as if throwing on another pair of hands will help move things along... there's a learning curve on any given project.
Personally, I think people should take them and I'm also a strong believer in Mental Health Days... sometimes you need to decompress. It might not be a factor for the European BCB'ers, most of whom get generous vacation packages, but Americans are lucky if they get two weeks off per year.
You're absolutely right, there a far different scenarios. As far as Mental Health days...I only work my guys 5 days a week and all they do is wait on customers. I know customers can be a headache but their job is not that demanding, if they need a day off, all I ask is they plan ahead so that I can as well. Common courtesy.
