The Herald was a dreadful car that everyone loved, the Allegro (conceptually at least) a brilliant little car that everyone hated. The hate was justified because they were so badly made and then serviced even worse. It earned its nickname as the Allaggro. It's nadir was becoming a students' "ironic-cool-mobile", but when I was a kid a 1750 was an amazingly cheap way to go road rallying.
The Herald (and I had a couple) was cute to look at and fun to be in, but thanks to the "tuck under" at speed) unsafe to drive fast. If it had worn a Moskvitch badge it would never have been been granted safety status to be sold in the UK.
