They recently hired a guy they've titled "Vice President of Marketing and Customer Experience" who came from a marketing firm who we had contracted to help, well, market the company. Yesterday, my immediate supervisor, the guy who takes the images I produce, the specialists' descriptions and estimates and puts them all together in catalogue form, was fired without warning and replaced TODAY by a girl who was headhunted through the aforementioned VP's old firm. To say that I am now acutely aware of how tenuous my seemingly once-solid position here is, is a massive understatement. I think I'd better keep an eye peeled for other types of employment, and try to head this train off at the pass.
Of course, I could be creating doomsday scenarios out of thin air and ultimately have nothing to worry about, the fact remains that I really dislike the new VP guy, and any time we have any sort of interaction my back gets up and I tend to respond to any of his questions as curtly as possible. According to the general manager of the company, this new VP is basically "in charge of everything now". So, in addition to looking out for future prospects, I figure I'd better just keep my head down and play the lackey as best I can.

That's good. You live to run another day. I'm shocked at grown adults or maybe I should say adults who get in fist fights. I haven't hit someone since I was twelve years old. I'm glad you chose the nonviolent approach even though it might have been tempting to hurt him. I'd hate to see you lose your ability to foster children because of a Neanderthal. Maybe it wouldn't happen but that can't be a good thing in your situation.
It wouldn't have seen very positively if I'd got involved while the wee guy was with me.

I would definitely be looking. From going through a few of these upheavals, it would be my opinion that your job is under the radar compared to the woman you just mentioned who's organizing a catalog. The only fear in your position is if they would outsource your job, but you could still get it back in a contract or free lance position.

I'm basically a full-time contractor, and have been for the past three years. I'm not on the payroll here.

Unless you decked him and did a little dance over the guy.
